Th Importance of Dreams
Thomas Sikking said in his book “Creative Communication:, “You’re not the product of a broken home, a devastated economy, a world in the upheaval of war, a minority group, a family of drunkards or a poverty-ridden neighborhood. You are the product of your own thinking processes and whatever you’re thinking about today is the cornerstone of your tomorrow.”
Did you ever hear someone state some really big aggressive desire or dream they have for their and have someone else respond to them, “In your dreams!” We talk a lot about dreaming, about vision, and about passion. When a person stops dreaming, they will die. We’ve all watched this happen. Someone retires from their life’s labor, without a plan, a vision for their future. They stop dreaming. In a short time, they die.
Chasing Dreams with the Right Mentality
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law.” Or the KJV says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Vision or revelation here is more than just daydreaming, imagining, or just letting your mind go to places you’ve never been. The dreaming must be balanced with an understanding of the laws of God. In other words, if in the world of your business you dream big dreams but do not put them into the context of God’s laws you will “cast off restraint” and do whatever it takes to achieve your desires. You will be unethical, dishonest, and without concern for anyone else but you as you pursue your “dream.”
“What we think about today is the cornerstone of tomorrow.” When we understand the power of putting those thoughts and dreams in the context of Biblical laws and principles we have then stepped into a place to receive the supernatural help and blessing of God on our lives and business. I believe it was John Maxwell that shocked a few people when he said, “There is no such thing as business ethics.” What he was communicating is that we should not have one set of ethics for business and another set for home, church, recreation, etc. There are only Biblical ethics and they apply at every level and activity of life. So, get the revelation of God’s truth, principles, and laws then dream on! God does not place limits on success. We place those limits by limiting our knowledge of God’s laws, our practice of those laws, and our own thoughts and dreams.
It IS…In your dreams!
PRAYER: Jesus, help me never stop dreaming, but to always keep you at the center of those dreams and aspirations. My dreams are just dreaming without you. You give my dreams purpose. Help me overcome my natural human selfishness and take on your heart of generosity. AMEN.
