Wood Shake or Shingles
Have always had a timeless appeal. Wood shakes and wood shingles are manufactured from western red cedar, cypress, pine and redwood trees. Shakes are split from logs and reshaped by manufacturers for commercial use. They are thicker at the butt end than shingles; generally one or both surfaces are split to obtain a textured effect. Although wood shake is one of the coolest roofs because it is able to vent so freely they can be problematic with leaks and in some municipalities it is being phased out due to fire hazard.
